A woman leader?

I have been following the contest for the labour leadership avidly and would have been at the Birmingham hustling this weekend if it wasn’t for a visit from a ambulance and a issue breathing.

Anyway I am loving the whole thing, learning about the candidates and what they stand for. I was talking to my girls about it all (one of my lectures they call it) when one asked me ‘why I didn’t want to see a woman leader’?

Now don’t get me wrong I am a feminist and would love nothing more that to see a woman lead the party, but I have to believe in the politics of the woman.

Being a feminist does not mean that we should support any woman just because of her gender. It means women should have the same equality in standing. But for me if the said women in this case political views do not inspire me I cannot vote for them just because of their gender. In fact I would be doing them a disservice if I did.

I’m a lefty and I believe that all people have the right to a quality of life. I am forward thinking but truly don’t believe we have to step on the poor and disabled to get on in life.

I will fight for human rights with every ounce of my being. I don’t view life in a ‘what’s in it for me’ way. I view it as a collective being, humanity.

I get angry when I hear people hate on migrants and those on benefits.

I am furious at tax breaks for the super rich and fuming about the damage privatisation is doing to our country.

I strongly believe disabled people should have the services needed to help them live a healthy and independent life. That no one should have to wait or refused treatment.

To be honest I am truly frightened for the people of this country over the next five years. This is the reason why I am so interested in the Labour leadership debate.

I cannot vote for either Yvette Cooper or Liz Kendall because they are woman, I have to believe in them and to be honest I’m not sure I do.

Having a women in leadership would be amazing but it has to be the right women. I mean do we really want another Maggie Thatcher, shall we all shout ‘poll tax’.

So my answer to my girls was “yes I would love to have a woman leader, but it has it be one I believe in”. So this time around it won’t be a woman getting my vote. My vote will be for Jeremy Corbyn because his history of fighting for equality, for fairness, transparency and justice holds true to the values I hold dear. People are already telling me it will be a wasted vote but I’m tired of politicians voting for party rather than conscience  so I’m certainly not going to do the same.

Right to your door

As a special needs mom I have a good relationship with the local chemists. From epilepsy meds to baby wipes I don’t go a week without a visit. So when I heard about Chemist Direct The UK number 1 online pharmacy I did get rather excited. The idea of cutting my visits to the local chemist really appeals to me. Anything that gives me some extra free time is awesome in my books.

So I decided to give Chemist Direct a whirl and was rather impressed with the service.

The online site is easy to use and clear and informative as you would hope from a chemist.

Shopping is as easy as 1,2,3,  basket, checkout and delivery.

I actually had a problem checking out thanks to my laptop so I had to call customer service. I have to say that they were awesome, they ran my whole order through over the phone with all the codes etc. Five minutes later I had made my order whilst still enjoying my cup of tea.

Seriously, no queues, no whining children it was pretty awesome.

My order was delivered two days later, packaged safely with no breakages.

Chemist direct is a great site and has some brilliant offers. I bulk buy on baby wipes as I use so many so not having to carry them home was rather helpful. I also used the great offers to restock my first aid kit.

Chemist direct offers prescription products, beauty products and a  whole lot more.

My life seems to be getting busier by the minute so anything that helps reduce time doing errands is fine with me.

I was really happy with the service and with free delivery with orders over £40 I will be using Chemist direct again.

Ambition and ego in the blogging world.

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging the last few weeks and why I personally blog. I was started on this thoughtful path after reading a few comments from within the blogging world, comments which upset me. Bloggers arguing with each other and tearing each other down.

This doesn’t sit well with me, to be truthful I was rather emotional about the whole thing.

Then I realised something.

Not all bloggers blog for the same reason I do.

For me I write to free my head of my words. To allow my thoughts to tumble out through my fingers and onto the pages. I also enjoy sharing my dreams and my hopes. My heartache and my struggles. The words are mine, I don’t expect them to influence you in any way, its just me opening my heart to the virtual world. I’m documenting my journey though this crazy thing called life. Even my reviews are written from my perceptive on what I like or what I don’t like. I just like showing you my fashion choices, books I have enjoyed reading and so on.

Still these are my reasons for blogging and they are not everyone else’s.

Some bloggers have ambitions and aspirations for their blog and you know what thats ok.

The problem (is it a problem)? Is when something becomes full of ambition or desire then ego also starts to play a part in it.

Along with our beloved egos comes jealousy and I think this is what has been rearing its head within the blogging community or maybe its always been there and I’m just slow on the uptake <-this has been known to happen.

Now don’t get me wrong I actually don’t have any issue with ambition. In fact I am highly ambitious in my own way in a different field from blogging. I have hopes and goals that I want to achieve.

Blogging for some is a business and you tell me of any business that doesn’t thrive on ambition. Ambition is what feeds growth.

So I guess what I am rambling on about is this, I’ve realised I cannot view the blogging world with my rose tinted glasses anymore. I have to open my eyes and see it as the business, the trade that it is for some.

I have to accept that there will be underhand comments and hurtful things happening. But I don’t have to like it but I can stop it from getting to me.

I don’t have to be as naive, but I also don’t have to change the way I view blogging. Personally for me its about the words, the dreams and the amazing friendships I have made along the way.

I’ve enjoyed widening my experiences, challenging myself, pushing my own limits and I’m not going to let this change.

What I am going to do is work harder on encouraging other bloggers. Congratulate those who have achieved awesome things. Hug those who are struggling and be a better blogging friend.

This little piece of the internet has brought so much into my life and I am truly grateful. Yet I will be constantly reminding myself why I started writing and the core values I set for myself.

Be honest and stay true to me.

It’s a simple statement but it will be my anchor in this crazy choppy virtual world.

My warm dry feet and wellies that fit..

I have wide feet and they get wider each day thanks to my wonderful illness which causes them to swell. To be honest this sucks, gone are the days when I could wear any shoes I wanted. Gone are my beloved Dr Martens, I am limited by what I can wear.

For the last couple of years I have been on the search for a pair of wellies. This may sound strange but as a family  of campers a good pair of wellingtons are a must. They are perfect for muddy camp fields and for slipping on quickly as you potter over in the early hours to the loos for a wee.

Anyway for the last few years I have had to just admire my families warm dry feet as I could not find wellies to fit.

But no more woo hoo thanks to the wonderful company Jileon I now am the proud owner of these babies.

I absolutely loved them, only last week I got to test drive them when on weekend on the Gower the heavens opened and the beautiful green field turned into lovely muddy mud.

These babies kept my feet warm and dry and guess what because Jileon make wellies for the wider feet they fit like a dream.

I am beyond happy.

I already have my eyes on my next pair.

Unknown-1

I am so happy, I have now joined the warm dry feet club and if like me you have been on a search for gorgeous wide fitting wellies search no more, check out Jileon they also offer normal widths for women, men and children too.

* I was gifted these wellies for the purpose of this review but all opinions are my own.

Keeping your home safe.

As Foster carers we have annual health and safety checks and yes whilst I complain every year about it I have appreciated how it has brought to our attention hidden dangers within the home.

It has shown us things that we hadn’t thought about or even realised were a danger and actually things that shocked us.

•Things like us having our water-butt close to our flat roof making it easy for burglars to hop up through one of our windows.

•Making sure our fire alarms and carbon monoxide monitors were all working well, so we didn’t pay the highest price ever with our lives.

•Checking the locks on our windows, not only to protect us against being robbed but to keep the kids safe by having the child restrictors ones fitted  so that the windows only open half way so the kids don’t go jumping out or fall out by accident.

•Making sure that household cleaners are locked away, so that young children don’t have access to things like bleach, dishwasher tablets etc.

Seriously there are so many things that we had to think about to protect our homes, and ourselves.

Legal and General have a fantastic online interactive house which allows you to see inside a virtual family home for the purpose of foreseeing dangers. This is a fantastic tool which gives you simple ideas to help protect your home and your loved ones.

thm_interactive-house

One of the main protections we have for ourselves is home insurance this protects us when accidents happen or the crimes occur.  Policies vary and you can make sure the cover you have fits your requirements.

Seriously check out policies for both contents and buildings and make sure your home is protected today.

These insurances are things we never hope to use but are always glad we have.

A wonderful weekend

We have just spend a wonderful weekend in South Wales.

We stayed on a new to us campsite

Nicholaston Farm

4552578641_866x225

As always I was rather nervous wondering if it was as nice as the website and the reviews said.

All I can say is that it was so much better.

From the first contact at the reception we were made to feel welcome on the site. They helped set us up near to the bathrooms so it would make life a little easier for us with our special needs child.

The site itself is immaculate and honestly the showers were better than the ones we have had home.

The views that surround the site are fantastic.

They have an onsite shop with fresh vegetables and fruit and a load of other goodies. The prices are also really reasonable which surprised me as one of my bug bears of campsite shops is the increase in prices. They even have their own pick your own fields, where you can spend some quality family time picking strawberries and other fruits.

The site also has its own cafe which serves a beautiful full breakfast oh and good coffee, really good coffee.

We had such a wonderful weekend that we have booked to stay for longer in August.

So seriously if you are looking for a campsite in Gower check out Nicholaston Farm as it is truly a first class site.

I love the Gower it is simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

I can’t wait to go back.

•All photos from the Nicholaston Farm website, I was chasing after the kids all weekend so didn’t get chance to take any decent photos. Next time…..

#Nationalbestfriendday

Well, yes I’m a day late but hey ho yesterday was National best friend day, and I just want to say a massive thank you to those crazy people I get to call my friends.

Friendship is something I haven’t always found easy, I didn’t really have the best school years. Yet over the last 20 years my life has been blessed by some amazing people.

Friendship has formed on school playgrounds, hospital wards, camping fields, via the plus size community and here on the internet.

I have friends I get to see often and friends I have yet to physically hug but each and everyone has blessed my life.

Friendships are beautiful things and I know I wouldn’t have survived the last 6 years especially without some incredible people who have held me tight and lifted me up.

My Grandad once told me that  “Strangers are friends you have to meet” and this philosophy has stood me well over time and I hope it continues to do so.

So here’s to the strangers I now get to call friends and those I have yet to meet.

I love you all xxx

Keeping one of my #plussizepromises

Last week following a challenge set by Debz from the The Not So Secret Diary of a Wannabe Princess  I blogged about some promises I was going to keep for myself.

One of those promises was I am going to get my legs out this summer.

Well the last few days have been simply gorgeous and a new beautiful dress from ASOS was the perfect time to keep this promise.

asosblack dress

My legs and guess what, the world didn’t break and I enjoyed the sunshine on my pins.

Honestly after years of hating my legs this is major for me. They are constantly swollen thanks to my illness, but guess what that’s life and I have to remind myself I am beautiful swollen legs and all.

asosblackdresscollage

I am absolutely loving this dress from Asos the detail on the neck and sleeves are just stunning.

Jus-Rol with it

Loving the smell of home baking and having the time to bake are definitely two separate things in this house. The last few months have been chaotic and the only time I have had to spend in the kitchen has been to cook meals for the family.

So I was rather excited when I was introduced to the Jus-rol bake it fresh range. Freshly baked cinnamon swirls ,croissants, pain au chocolat, apple danish, garlic pizza bread and pizza bases.

We tried the cinnamon swirls first and seriously was surprised by how easy they were to bake and how yummy they were.

I am glad I took this photo whilst the swirls were still warm because 20 minutes later they were all gone.

I have been using Jus-Rol pastry for a while. Now I’m happy to add these Bake-It-Fresh products to my list.

We can’t wait to try the others in the range.

*I was gifted vouchers to purchase these products but all opinions are my own.
